Just curious. what's your process as far as penciling and inking?

No pencils, per se. I do my layouts in Photoshop and then my 'pencils' in Photoshop as well. Then I'll print out the page on bristol in blue lines, and then ink that with Copic Multiliners and brush pens. After it's scanned, cleanup is done in Manga Studio and I clear up any messed up lines.

holy crap. that sounds like alot of work for one person, but you must get them out pretty fast if your the 'penciler' and inker. it takes me 5 to 6 hours from start to finish to do a page (pencils only) is that comparable to the speed professionals work at. sorry i know these are alot of questions but i just got hired at a small comic company in atl and i'm kind of scared, that i wont be able to keep up.

Yeah, it's a lot of steps! When I'm behind on a deadline, I just cut out the traditional inking and go straight into Manga Studio with the Photoshop pencils. I've gotten a lot faster over the years, but a lot of the time I don't get to work in a traditional manner. I'll just get portions of a script at a time, so I'll do layouts on that for a day or two, then start drawing after those get approved. I can do 2 pages a day if I have to (don't always like to, though!).

Thanks for the in put by the way. Are most layouts done digitally? (I just bought my first computer this year so i'm just starting to learn.) Yeah i am finding out just how invaluable lay outs can be. you kind of screw your self when you rush in with out a plan. if you ever find yourself with too much time on your hands(ha) would you do me the favor of browsing over my most resent deviations (grey pages 1-8) and critiquing them.

hey, sorry for the late reply! I wouldn't say most are done digitally--though it's definitely getting to be a more popular method.

I checked out your pages--good stuff! You have a very cool style and strong attention to detail. All I would say is be careful about things looking too stiff--that was something I ran into myself a couple of years ago. Sometimes with a detailed style, characters can look a bit stiff, and it's important to keep them as loose and natural looking as possible. Exaggerating poses is a natural solution to this.

Wow I never even thought of that, till you pointed it out. They look like mannequins on some panels. I'll try some more bombastic movements and posing to give them a bit more life. Thanks for taking time to look at my stuff. You don't hit any of the cons in the south east do ya?
